up way too late…

by on Aug.10, 2006, under General

so, i should be sleeping right now, but i needed to get some laundry done, so here i am. i’ve got some pants and some shirts on their final spin right now, so as soon as that is done and i put em in the dryer, i’m done for the night…

well, this week has been insanely busy… i can’t believe its thursday (being almost 1am) … i’ve been so busy this week i haven’t had a chance to post since monday… so, what have i been up to? oh wow…

to begin, i’m doing a refi on my house, finally got my credit good enough to get a fixed rate 30yr mortgage on my house so i’m stoked… got a decent rate considering what the market is at right now, so i’m not complaining. the only catch? gotta make sure my house appraises for 235K. it should considering all the work myself and my friends have been putting in here… every day this week from 4:45pm to 9:00pm there has been insane work going on here. while i’m on that subject, i need to express how extremely grateful i am for my friends, specifically my “brothers”, you guys are the best. Andy & Mark, you’ve been here every night this week and I cannot express how much your help has meant to me… Kris & Mike came up today to help out some too which was awesome… so far we’ve completed the front yard fine trimming (all we need is a mow now), scraping/sanding of the trim, the deck has been restained already (that was all Andy folks, rock on bro!) and all thats left is to paint the trim and finish the yard and inside house work… that should be pretty easy to accomplish tomorrow barring any unfortunate weather interventions. so far its been good so we should be set. again, i cannot express how much these guys mean to me… i owe Andy huge on this one, lol.

so, i’m sitting here listening to pandora.com — if you haven’t checked it out and you like music, then get your butt over there… so badass! anyway, the clothes have finished, so i need to get some sleep – another busy day tomorrow as its our last day before the appraisel. wish me luck!

IOC…

(btw, if you want to stop the music, the player is at the bottom of the page)

i think only andy will understand the title and subsections of this blog… if anyone else gets it… then right on you’ve understood more of whats going on around me right now… 🙂

if you get it, post the answers in a comment.

there is no meaning to this blog other than that… its purely for entertainment value as well as a few blurbs from me on what i’m thinking about the phrase i’ve picked…

… static, bumbidit bum bum bum, static …

static electricity, dryers… static… dryers…. yes, i just shocked the living crap out of myself not more than 2 minutes ago… i seriously got air with that one… lol no other connection here, just funny that ambient music demands the ‘ consumer ‘ deal with static.

… i can find shelter, in this world, i’m searching for another world, where i feel safe …

this would have to be the perfect analogy for when i drown myself in music while trying to figure out problems… this being the case right now… there have been a few more analogies all night long, which is what sparked me into writing this… funny how that works…

… if i could reach you, catch you, make you understand! if i’m not dead enough for life, am i alive enough for death …

no hidden meaning there folks… that was just funny to me… andy will laugh, just you wait.

… (female) mr speaker i love you (male) thanks mister speaker for letting us dance the night away …

oh yes… music, i couldnt live without it… especially music this good. few groups can i listen to over and over and man, let me tell ya, i’ve been jammin these guys for days – especially while playing Hexic HD and Bankshot Billiards… two very good games on my 360 which are just perfect for music like this.

… will we fight it? will we play? will we start all over again? well we better do something, I’m losing this game again, the same old game …

… new start, re-start, empty pages, make some changes, install everything new …

had to get two from that one… perfect explaination of life there don’t ya think? although I believe the song speaks more from the aspect of the battle of life and relationships its funny how music in and of itself expresses points of view of subject matters based on the artist (the writer that is) feels … i mean you take Trent Reznor for example… holy cow, that is one pained individual, however I have always felt a relation to the music when i’ve been in those types of moods… hence why i like so many different types of music… life is diverse, its not hip-hop or country 24-7… explore yourself in music… with that i leave this blog for those who wish to play to comment. name the songs listed here… this one is an easy one. future ones may be WAY more difficult. 🙂

… we’ve never been close to them, the distance is our shield …

Now, go hug someone… ROFL.

upgrades complete… well mostly.

by on Aug.05, 2006, under General

Ok, after an intense afternoon/evening of issues all across the board with this server, its updated to the latest and greatest FreeBSD! (6.1)

A proper shoutout to the developers of the OS as it’s install was perfect… now to the open source community that just changes how things function and interact without some proper documentation somewhere as to how someone is supposed to get the same functionality they had in a previous minor version of software… you people can kiss my ass. Thanks to you, I spent 4 extra hours trying to figure out why my sendmail wouldn’t authenticate with saslauthd, why my php extensions for apache weren’t working and why bind wouldn’t crank up correctly… (the bind thing was actually sort of easy, so at least that wasn’t a total waste of my time)

However, despite the fact that some open source developers need babysitters to keep them in line, the features and the functionality (once working) is awesome. So, despite that fact I’d like to slap some of them, they also deserve a hug. lol So, we’re running on the latest apache, latest php, older mysql, but thats because i didn’t want to deal with database problems yet… lol and a whole lot of other upgrades… good stuff.

So, i totally stayed up until 3am playing halo with Jesse this morning… what was I thinking? woke up at 11am though which was fun… Arwen let me sleep in only because she is sleeping herself still… she’s picked up a little bug again and had a fever last night, oh well – she’s got my immune system it seems – sleep for 18 hours and bam you’re healed! lol she should be surfacing around 3pm or 4pm ready to rock, i hope.

it’s overcast today… i kinda like it. it means it wont get much above the 75 it is right now and there’s a chance of rain… yay! i think i will be completely lazy today… just sit around in a tank top and some sweat pants playing video games… i’m hungry though… well, its never too late for cornedbeef hash and eggs… (lol) i think i’ll whip some up and see how arwen’s feelin about eating… typically she’ll eat like a horse whenever shes on the recovery track. i dunno… ugh debating it all right now…

anyway, i need to go make myself productive in some fashion or maybe get into some sort of trouble :)

tech docs…

by on Aug.03, 2006, under General

oh the pain… oh the horror…

so i’m assessing my workload for the next few weeks and looking into the projects which i’ve said i’ll handle. what was i thinking? oh yeah, i really had no choice in the matter, lol all good. so in addition to creating installation packages for FreeBSD (done yay!) and Linux (*GAG!*) i’m creating documentation for each. now keep in mind this is not a hard task, just mundane and irritating. i hate documentation yet find some satisifaction when i complete one…. i’m so odd. i already completed the FreeBSD install paper so next on my list is gathering together all the documentation tidbits from various folks here that have put smaller docs together to make one really huge webcat doc for release to our customers when needed. i love writing MOPDOCS (method of procedure documents for your non-techs).

in other news, the preparation for moving this webserver over to FreeBSD 6.1 is going pretty well. as soon as i finish up with the rest of these blasted perl modules this thing will be ready… hopefully tomorrow i can put it in place. woot!

i’m so glad this week is almost over and its such a shame that the weekend is only 2 days. oh well, all good. humpday at least went pretty good yesterday, i came home a little early due to a power outage at the office and proceeded to get my front and part of my back lawn mowed before it rained. score for me as if i had gotten off at the usual time, rain would have prevented my mowing for the second day in a row. as for the rest of humpday, i was impressed at the calmness and just general relaxation mood that covered us all last night. andy, mark, david, jenn and arwen all did the usual dinner thing and hung out. we were minus mike, ryan and naomi but it was still a good night. andy engrossed himself watching blade the series, which i’ve yet to get attached to but i’m trying to give it a fair trial. david and mark disappeared off somewhere (i think back over to davids house to mix themselves up some drinks) and jenn and i sat downstairs having a pretty good couple hour conversation about various subjects while arwen played and did her happy little kid bouncing around stuff. overall a good evening i’d have to say. ended it off at about 2300/2330,  got everything cleaned up and then i watched a movie for a bit until i went to bed. now its just get through friday for stargate tomorrow and whatever else falls into place over the weekend.

oh yeah.. and for giggles… Matt Damon is the next Captain Kirk. ROFL -> Click Here

1500, two more hours to go… well i’ve got a lot to do so i should drop here… if anything significant occurs, you know where it’ll be. lol
