still alive…

by on Oct.24, 2006, under General

wow… wanna talk about busy? the last 13 days have been insanely busy… where to start?

aside from work being busier than the usual lazy day action, home life has been insane. got about 3/4 of that room done that i was remodeling… that literally ate my schedule alive. but, its almost done. here’s a couple pics.

before:

before

the room wasn’t too shabby, i just hated that wood board crap all around the room… and that drop ceiling? oh yeah, needed to die! the room also didn’t have any ceiling light fixture… so lame.

after (sorta)

almost there

still gotta put in the new window (this weekend) and put all the trim in (couple weekends from now) but its coming along pretty good… there were some errors in the drywall taping, but overall it wasnt too bad… not for my first go at this.

total left to do:

1) install new window, cleanup trim and replace around window
2) cleanup wall around closet, paint, install closet door
3) cleanup wall to left (of where pic was taken), paint
4) purchase crown molding and baseboards, stain, install
5) resand and stain the wood on the “ledge” around the room

*shrug* either way… one whole week spent working on the house, a full weekend of FFXI and here I am, tired as anything on a Tuesday… but i am recovering. i’ll probably finish up the rest of that room here in the next week or so, once things settle down. for now i need to get back to normal. well as normal as normal can be.

i’ll post more later.

the 401-K(eg) plan…

by on Oct.03, 2006, under General

Kate posted this up on her myspace bulletins, it made me laugh, so I figured I’d share.

—————

Just think…

If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth a whole $49.00.

With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1,000.00.

With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left.

With Lucent, you would have $3.50 left of the original $1000.00

But…

If you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND you would have a $214.00 profit.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

It’s called the 401-K(eg) Plan.

is it snowboarding season yet?

by on Sep.25, 2006, under General

the countdown has begun… with a good drop of snow last week (2’+) it sparked the fever in a few of us. abasin is set to open towards the end of october (last year was oct 23) so that puts up just under a month away to get out there and party again. keystone and breck are both likely to open nov 10, so at least they’re not too far behind. i’m so ready. my pass is renewed, got some new gear, board carrier for the car… oh yeah…. i feel like a kid waiting for christmas. i hope to get my daughter up there this year, perhaps doing some skiing just to get her started in the snow. might have to wait another season or two before attempting the snowboarding exposure.

in other news… almost ready to put in the ceiling in the guest room… got the remaining vent installed this weekend and i’m planning on patching the floor today and locating the power for the ceiling fan, so this should be fun. on a good note, it appears that i have more than enough sheetrock to do the ceiling and some patches around the house, so i’m excited about that. i want to try to get this thing wrapped up and ready for tape, plaster, paint no later than the middle of october. that gives me some time to get everything mapped out and wrap up this room by the end of november… *fingers crossed* at least the heating system is out of the way, that was a worry spot for me. just need to round up some more money and get this thing finished up so that i don’t have it hanging over my head and clear it out before my parents come into town. would be nice to have that room finished …

anyway, gotta get back to work… i’ve got to head down to denver today to fix a database and reinstall our tape backup software… oh fun.

later
