things to do on a break…

by on Feb.06, 2007, under General

slack off and write a blog…

why not? i need to pull my focus away from this billing portal i’m writing.

honestly, it’s frustrating. i don’t really like programming or scripting things, however, what does one do when there is no one else that can do it the way you envision it and knows off the top of their head how to handle such a task? the wonderful part about this? we found out within the last week or so that this had to be completed for a test run of the system, slated for sometime in the next week or so. yay for me.

despite the frustration however, i’m nearly 70% done. i just need to integrate the payment gateway into the process so that we get paid. sadly, it appears that could be the most complicated portion of this entire process. what a pain. it’s okay, i’ll ponder on this and probably do most of it from remote over the next couple of days. it’s usually what i do to catch up or meet a deadline. pretty busy week still. tomorrow and a good chunk of friday i’ll be out of the office, so it’s nice to know i’m almost done with this and can more than likely head into the weekend with nothing hanging over until monday. of course, with my luck, something will be screwed up with the gateway and cause me to roll into monday with it. *taps foot*

in other news, nothing really going on lately… same ole stuff… bummed for poor sharon… she won’t be boarding anymore this season with us. she met with a pretty harsh end to the season this weekend when she landed on her shoulder. it was probably the worst dislocation i’ve ever seen. i felt so helpless as there was nothing i could do to fix it… mine was *NOTHING* compared to this one. i’m just glad there happened to be a doctor nearby when it happend and he got it relocated within a minute or so of the accident. he did the coolest trick which i will forever remember. that guy forever has my respect. andy is still has me in rehab (hehe) for my lack of playing FFXI lately, hehe… i lost interest for a while there between work stress and life stress so it’s good to be getting back into the game some.

the house is coming along well… it’s been remodel nation around there and hopefully in the next few weeks it’ll be wrapping up around those projects currently open… i’ll post pictures once its all done. 😀

anyway, back to work. maybe i’ll get a chance to write more later. 🙂

ponderings of a week past…

by on Jan.24, 2007, under General

so, i noticed today that it’s been over a week since i last put anything up… while i usually try to post at least one funny or interesting item a week, it seems like i have had nothing the last two. it is a very odd place where my mind has been. it’s difficult to explain. i guess overlooking some of the events of the last week could shed some light on this, however i’m drawing a blank.

Last week was a pretty typical week, nothing special. It just seems that it blew by and I can’t seem to figure out what all I did, I think in part to feeling a little under the weather for a couple of days. Monday and Tuesday, such a blur – but at least the normal wednesday routine still stuck. It was good to see Andy and Mike again and play some FFXI … It seems that lately i’ve been slacking in the building of my character… i’ve just had too much going on. Regardless – it was good to play again. Thursday – such a blur. I came home sick from work and feeling miserable, no need to go further there… but it carried over into Friday somewhat. it was however quite amusing to see Jesse all cracked out after having his wisdom teeth pulled though. Jesse was a mess and I’ve got video! lol The rest of friday went by pretty slow, as I just laid around and played video games, nothing special… Andy and Sharon came over to hang out – that was fun, but i still felt drained. pizza was what we had for dinner i believe… still it’s a blur. Saturday was pretty cool though. I got up early as I was feeling much better. Mike, Sharon and I headed up to Breckenridge for a nice day of boarding… it was a good day and I felt pretty pummled afterwards, probably setting myself up for failure the next day. I slept in Sunday, got up and made breakfast for everyone and observed the snow falling outside. I contemplated calling off going up to Keystone for some night boarding, however against my better judgement I went anyway. Stupid move, however – I did still have some fun. The drive was horrible going up as the roads were covered in ice and snow, still I pressed on. We got to Keystone around 17:30/18:00 and got up on the first run upon which I caught some ice and landed on my shoulder… the pain subsided quickly and I felt good to continue not quite comprehending what I had really done. The second and third runs went great, aside from the fact I caught my heel edge and landed on my back one good one at the end of run #3. I think that’s the straw that broke the camel’s back. On the last run, or I should say just prior I lost feeling in my right arm… Sharon took a look at it and during the process I felt a pop, extreme pain and then all seemed well… it was now 7 degrees and time to get this run completed before it got much colder. During the first part of the run I lost my balance and landed again on my shoulder… any other day, this wouldn’t have phased me, however… this time it finished me. I again couldn’t feel my arm and in turn had no balance, so my riding was over. After a power struggle for what I should do, I succumbed to Sharon’s demands and allowed myself to be looked at. This landed me a ride in the infamous “loser cruiser” of a sled down the slopes… I felt low. lol I couldn’t even make it down the mountain in a slow controlled fashion… I, of all people, needed a lift. I might add, that was some of the finest skiing I’d ever seen anyone do – big shout to Ski Patrol at Keystone for handling my 255 lbs frame + snowboard on a sled with only a pair of skiis. I got down to the bottom and got checked out, nothing broken and nothing out of place — anymore. Now was the time to drive home… the same horrible road conditions existed, except this time I was gimpin. I think we left around 8:30 and I didn’t get home until around 11:30 — VERY long drive. I was extremely happy to see a warm shower and my bed after that ordeal. I did however get the workout that I wanted that would just collapse me and reset me. Overall, a good weekend and a nice break in between normal crap.

Monday wasn’t too bad… pain in my shoulder, but not too much and a normal Monday at work. I guess what’s landed me here today is the event’s of last week all piled onto the last 24 hours… Donna passed away last night. For those that don’t know this is Arwen’s aunt Donna that watched her for the better part of a year. She was a huge part of my daughter’s life and while I feel that she understands what happened, I just don’t think she truly gets it. Then again, maybe she does…  anyway… the rest of everything goes into a private post. let’s just hope this next week is better. I’ve got a lot of work to do and a lot going on…

phenomenal weekend…

by on Jan.15, 2007, under General

well, i’ve got to say this weekend ranked right up there with one of the best and so far the best for 2007 for sure.

friday gave me a pretty bad start, but it evened out. i started picking up a migraine sometime around 4pm on friday but decided to push through it to go hang out with andy at old chicago’s for a bit. i’m so glad it subsided long enough to have some fun with andy, however by the time we got back it was kicking in full and i was out for the count. my usual remedy and the 2 hour sleep fix didn’t cut it this time and when i woke up with it still pounding i knew i was screwed… luckily jon had a couple of good high powered advil’s floating around from when he hurt his back and that numbed my head pretty good, even got my ears too… it still didnt stop the nausea though, what a pain, but that too passed eventually. i thought for sure my weekend was screwed since i had no clue how this would effect my sleeping and of course getting up early for boarding saturday since it already threw my plans into a downward spiral and delayed me at this point… however, it would all work out.

i popped out of bed at 0545 and i was wide awake and ready to rock, lol. i started bomb calling mike since i hadn’t informed him that it was a complete go for boarding (due to being put out of commission friday night with the migraine) so i was a bit worried he wouldnt make it. however, it worked out and i got ahold of him about 20 minutes before i was ready to head out so he made it just fine… i headed down to pick him up and then headed down to pick up sharon and rodney for a fun day in the powder (4-5″ of fresh up there from our last snow that hit Friday night) and it was on. oddly enough, despite the temps being around 10 degrees around denver all day, we enjoyed the high 20’s and a spike of 30 during the day up at breck… haha suckers! it was an awesome day, i love some fresh pow, let me tell ya. mike and i got in a couple of good fast runs and it appears we even got sharon over some of her fears of the dreaded toe edge… been there on that one and its a scary one for sure. she beat it a little easier than i did and even left me trying to catch up on the last run of the day… i was tired okay? lol we’ll see how well this weekend goes. gotta try to get mark up there with us for sure. the guy hasnt been all season and needs to hit the hills, its unacceptable. over all i’d have to say it was one of the best days i’ve had up there, nice speed, good control, low traffic, just phenomenal. it gave me a good chance to unwind and work on my skills a little bit.

the rest of the weekend went pretty good as well… hung out with the kiddo, talked some plans over for my house with jon, hung out with sharon and jesse, typical stuff, but all pretty relaxed… not to mention that i got a good finale with 2 hours of 24 (and again tonight!) so that was awesome. i’ve also got some pretty cool things figured out for some remodel ideas in my house, so i’m pretty excited to see how/when i can get some of these things started up. 😀 first things first though, we’ve got to get that heater installed out in the garage – we can’t be droppin 30/wk on jetfuel to power the rocket anymore, its just not economical, but the furnace is awesome – mad props to tom for scoring that and jon for lining it up for me.

well, i guess its back to monday stuff for me… yay. need to go run a couple errands so yeah… later

so…

by on Jan.09, 2007, under General

not much going on over the last week… just trying to return life to normal around here after a three for three winter storm run… funny part about that? we’re due again on friday yet again… lol however, this isn’t the end of the world as it’s awesome that we’re getting all this moisture. my neighbor’s quote made me laugh:

“i’m going to punch the next person who mentions the word drought in the same sentence as colorado” — so awesome

so last nights post… haha yeah, that was awesome… i’ve figured out a lot more tricks on my new phone that allow me to do some interesting things on the internet. at first i figured it was pretty limited but i’m impressed by how much it can do. funny thing was the 5 minutes it took me to type all that out last night, lol.

here’s my new phone:

the dash

yes, i moved to tmobile… nextel with its sorry self has just gone in the toilet since the merger with sprint. it’s like they don’t even care anymore about their service. i wouldn’t receive like half the phone calls made to me, only got about half my voice mails and i got one out of 10 text messages sometimes and it would take on the upwards of a half hour to get text messages to and from friends each time… wtf? i know jesse is happy – not only did he get three lines activated but he doesnt have to wait 2 hours for text returns from me now, lol.

so, snowboarding… i’m really hoping to get up there more… the last month has been horrible. twice i’ve been able to get up due to the snow being so heavy down here in the city… hopefully we’ll get a break this weekend and i can get up there. i’m starting to lose my mind.

pretty much it for now… i’ll write more later or something
