Thank you… may I have another?
by Travis on Apr.30, 2008, under General, Tech Stuff
Ahhh… the end user. What a wonderful compilation of pure ignorance and misdirected rage. I’m not talking about every end user, don’t get me wrong… I’m talking about those retarded few who fall into the hall of fame category category of Darwin award candidate or are poster children for a PEBKAC union.
PEBKAC is an acronym which stands for “Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair”.[1] The phrase is used by computer experts as a semi-humorous[2] way to describe user errors.
Being a perfect examples of how these choice few individuals wreak havoc on IT personell across the globe and show their true colors of idiocy, one of our LAN Admins took a ticket yesterday that has sense turned ugly…
Normally when a ticket is claimed by one of our Admins, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to a week to process the request depending on what is requested… In this particular intance a request was made for some operation to be completed to which not more than 24 hours later was treated as if it was a request that had been placed and unanswered for a period of days bordering on a week. This person is ranting and raving because someone hasn’t been given access to a particular application when a) the request form hasn’t even been filled out and signed off on and b) the request wasn’t even 24 hours old. Long story short this Admin is being harassed from all different directions based off misinformation being fed to people by this dumb user.
To the retarded users:
IT personell are *NOT* your personal servants waiting patiently for your request to come in so they can service you. They, unlike you, have other duties to perform which sometimes are of way more importance than your obviously (mostly only to you) trivial request. They will be dealt with in the order in which they were either a) received or b) classified as more urgent. Seriously, I bet you’re the kind of person who wants to be in front of the gunshot wound victim at the ER for your tiny splinter huh? Just STFU and GTFO!
*rant over*
I feel for this individual, I really do. I’m just glad in our organization we have a good communication string up the ladder and can usually resolve issues like this with an echo back down the chain which lands in their lap and leaves them with an icky taste in their mouth.
As for the user, I think this individual has lost the concept of time completely… This user actually submitted a ticket to IT concerning the fact that said individual’s watch consistently “lost” time when in the facility. LOL I think this person needs to be fitted for a slighlty larger helmet, it’s a little too tight.
trying to stay awake…
by Travis on Apr.28, 2008, under General
ok, so let’s see here…. in trying to stay awake I have just consumed a jumbo honey bun in 0.3 seconds, reinstalled my work computer and i’m about to down a couple of cokes… or perhaps a combination of coke and mountain dew… i’m seriously nodding off at my desk here folks. mmmm… cheeto’s flamin hot limo.
this is what I feel like right now, minus the riced out car, horrendous hat and bling. Still a retardedly funny picture however. 🙂

So why am I so cracked out? try being up for 29 hours with 1.5 hours sleep in the middle of it. It’ll get you messed up man. *sniff* Actually, 10 years ago, I could stay up for a couple days if I needed to… now it’s a struggle to stay up 16-18 hours so 29 is just unfathomable. LOL
Ugh… I’m so not going to the gym today … I might dare to mow the lawn though. We’ll see. It truly depends on how I’m doing once I get home and maybe sneak in a small nap. *shrug* we shall see.
Anyway, I’m starting to nod off typing this so I need to go find something else to do…
what a week…
by Travis on Apr.25, 2008, under General
Can I just say how glad I am this week is coming to a close? It’s honestly been probably one of the longest, roughest weeks I’ve had in a long time. I’m not going to complain about individual items because that’s pointless whiney nonsense but yeesh, I hope next week isn’t anything remotely close to this one.
I turned 29 this week… and that’s all I have to say about that… *sigh* the countdown to the big three-oh has begun.
Got a start on the family room remodel which will be the final piece in completing the entire downstairs. Pictures are going to come shortly and there will be a constant blog of the progress since this one is going to be so much fun. (hint of sarcasm with a side order of mild excitement) It should be pretty interesting though. Putting a real ceiling into the room instead of that crappy drop ceiling nonsense, widening up the stairway going down there by at least a foot if not more, installing a gas fireplace, expanding the jacket closet on the living room floor (it’s tied into the family room oddly), streamlining the hallway and laundry room, installing a swinging bookcase, a pocket door on the bathroom… the list keeps going. It’s definitely going to be a fun storyboard of pictures and to add to the mix of things, the goal is completion by August. How’s that for pressure?
Did I mention how glad I am tomorrow is Saturday? I’m turning off every phone, turning off the doorbell and if you beat on my door you *WILL* get the business end of the weapon closest to me when I come stumbling out of my room in your face. I am looking forward to sleeping in and if it is disturbed people *WILL DIE*! Hopefully I’ll get some time to do something relaxing this weekend. We shall see.
I want to take a nap at work but I know how uncomfortable that would actually be. I have no desire to wake up with either my head stuck to my desk in a puddle of drool or have my contacts dry out and stick to my eyeballs (which happens when I sleep with them in *shudder*)
6.5 hours to go. *bangs head on desk* hmmm well I guess I better get back to work. I have so much to get done today. This whole week has been one giant game of catch-up. heh… there goes the MPLS link here at work… bye bye cities… 🙂
upgrades to andy’s truck! (part ii)
by Travis on Apr.14, 2008, under General
I know Andy will thank me profusely for finally doing this. LOL
After all the hard work we put into lifting his truck a couple weekends ago and no love from my blogsite I’m just waiting for the gentle nudge in the comments on here and the phone conversations to turn ugly fast. hehe jk, Andy’s just excited his ride is finally done. For the record Andy, the other post wasn’t so much more noteworthy, but it required less pictures to be uploaded to the site. I not only had to upload these to the gallery, but then drop them into the blog… After we completed the first round upgrades, there was no where to go but up, literally.
For the record, after we finished this project I was wiped out for three days… literally. We started on Friday at about noon-thirty and ended at about six hours later. I was so wrecked I went to bed at 9:30 that night (record I think) and despite having gotten almost 10-11 hours of sleep still found a way to pass out on the couch for a few hours on Saturday without it harming my normal sleep routine Saturday night.
For more photos of this, please look in my gallery, i’m not spamming my whole blog with this. -> Lazy Shortcut <-
Here’s where we left off:
We took a little comparison photo first off. This is Arwen’s bike next to the truck… not to impressive. 🙂
We started in the rear and worked our way forward… when all was said and done, this is what we ended up with. A thing of beauty. 🙂
By far one of the coolest mods to roll away from my garage. I’d have to say next to the turbo-charging of the Corolla, this one is my favorite. 🙂
