guess who decided to drop into my moghouse?

Yep, look who decided to drop into the game…

It’s Amanda! 🙂
So after a long discussion about how the game worked with Andy and I, Amanda caved and wanted to create a character. I guess that’s what I get for over justifying why I play the game huh, lol. 🙂
She did pretty good actually… I expected the learning curve to take a couple days but Andy is a great teacher and she’s well on her way to leveling like a pro.
Another convert I guess. *shrug* It’s not without it’s perks though, my moghouse isn’t quite as empty any longer. 😉

Anyway… it’s late and time for bed.
lack of intelligence…

You know… I’ve come to a conclusion that “script kiddies” are getting dumber and dumber by the minute. For those of you that don’t know I routinely (daily) check over the security output for the server that hosts all of my websites, email, etc and add entire C blocks (that’s a /24 network or 254 addresses to those of you who don’t know) from other countries to a complete IP traffic ban when they attempt to access the network. Who in Korea or China needs to use anything on my server anyway? I don’t host any Chinese or Korean sites, right? 🙂 The hosts from the US are easy to deal with, which by the way makes up less than 0.5% of the attempts. I simply turn over to their ISP’s or the authorities if they rough up my server too bad. Honestly the ones under 25 requests I pretty much ignore from the US… I figure it’s some lil kid trying to learn the ropes and maybe will move on to learning something better once they can’t get in so why bother em? 🙂
Well anyway… back to my original thought here… Some of these logins are ridiculous… To name a few:
letmein, myspace1, monkey, link182, password1, iloveyou, cookie123, miss4you, clumsy, f*#{you1, baby etc…
I was humored by the porn guy a couple weeks ago, those were almost comical. These are actually in order:
love, hate, f*#{, image, photo, video, webcam, magic, dorms, slut, b!+ch, cock, sh!+, porno, lesbos, swinger, playboy, etc…
Even better are the ones that try command names or OS names:
more, less, grep, ifconfig, ls, ps, mv, suse, mandrake, debug, kernel, windows, netstat, etc…
I swear IQ’s have dropped sharply. If anyone even allowed some of those logins they’re pretty retarded honestly. It defies all common sense I tell you. Honestly, I’ve been hacked before and it didn’t bother me this much. Someone with some real talent can acquire access to your system and 90% of the time you have no clue they were even there. They pop in, do their thing and pop out but this spamming of logins and passwords is really quite pathetic and annoying. My personal favorite are the ‘root’ and ‘admin’ attempts as they make me laugh since there is no way you’re getting in with a root login on the server unless you’re sitting on the console physically…
Sadly what is even more pathetic is that some of those attempts actually work on some systems because the people in charge of those systems are either a) incompetent themselves or b) unaware that someone incompetent installed a vulnerable OS on their network. I do however think people need to be a little more proactive.
Anyway… I’ll end my rant here. 🙂
balance is wonderful…

There has to be something said for finally finding some scheduling balance… after 4 out of 6 business days being 12+ (a couple 15+) hour days I was beginning to wonder if there was going to be any light at the end of the tunnel. 🙂 Apparently things look to be calming down this week and I’m looking forward to another 4 day week for sure. Hopefully I can get a chance to go up boarding this next Friday if all works out. Hopefully the weather will be as good as it was this past weekend… It has been phenomenal out here. I’m hoping here as it starts to warm up to finally get Arwen up there and trying the snow out. I got Amanda up there, now it’s up to the little one to join us and we can start making a family trip out of it to go up. ^^
Things *I think* are getting back to normal around the house… This past month has been really busy with all the traveling and family in town and such but I’ll say it’s quite honestly odd to have so much quite around the house now. The trip with my parents went really well and I’m definitely glad that my Dad got a chance to go up a couple times and hit the slopes with me. Hopefully the next time we can shoot for three or four. With the calm-down I’ve also had some time to get on and play some FFXI again with Andy and Mike. More so Andy since Mike has been slackin lately… c`mon man, that’s my job. 🙂 I know Andy has enjoyed the company in the game again and it’s good to have some type of virtual distraction from the day to day things in life. But with that it’s also good to have time to balance that in with the time spent with my family and friends.
All in all things are going pretty good though. The new job is working out great and the family is doing well. Now if we can just finish getting everything squared away to begin moving forward on some more projects around the house we’ll be set. lol Funny how when you finally hit a spot of normal life you want to jumble it all up with more remodel work. yeesh… I’m just asking for it aren’t I? We’ve got some pretty nice things planned out and hopefully we’ll have the ability to implement most of them before this time next year. *knock on wood*
Ok, well nothing else too exciting to report… just felt like giving a shout out to let the world know I’m still breathin. 🙂
drinking from a firehose…

I think that’s the phrase that best describes the last week or so of life…
I’ve tried to start to write a blog four or five times with no success. I keep getting interrupted or something else comes up. Like I said, it’s been busy juggling between constant stuff rolling in at work and the home life. At least I’ve fit in some time for boarding. 🙂
Went up with my dad (oh yeah, did I mention the parents are in town?) to Breck last week which was a lot of fun. Not so much for him though when a boarder collided with him. I told him that’s what he got for wearing skis this time up, hehe. At least he got in a few good runs before getting blasted. 🙂 We’re going up again tomorrow so we’ll see if he can successfully dodge the bullet this time… ooo that reminds me… I need to wax my board tonight.
Life otherwise has been pretty good. It’s business as usual around the house mostly… Oh, I did exchange emails with my friend Randy the other day… it’s been a while since I’ve heard from him so I was beginning to wonder what was going on out in Iraq with him. It’s good to here he and Sarah are well and to see some pictures. Come to think of it, I wonder how Troy is… I’ve got a few friends over there to worry about. Please remember our soldiers in those prayers folks…
Well, my time is short, so I must be getting back to work. This was a nice little break from the buzzing about here.
