warming trends…
by Travis on Mar.06, 2007, under General
It’s too warm in the mountains… I feel the snow screaming as the digits move upwards. Maybe it’s just me. This has been such a wierd season up there. Way too many warm days keeping the base down. This time last year the snowpack was at least 100″ – 120″ … today it’s 64″ with over 203″ of snowfall this season. Pretty sad. I’m honestly beginning to wonder how much of the season is going to be worth going up for if the snow keeps turning to slush every day and refreezing to ice every night. It’s kind of depressing. At the same time however, I do welcome the warmer weather down here. It’s going to be in the high 50’s to mid 60’s the next week. It’s nice to go on walks and not freeze, but at the same time it’s a sign that boarding is almost done for the year. Hopefully the slopes hang in there for another two months.
Today has been one of those days. Preparing for the next couple of days has been a little bit of a drain. It’s a busy week between the visit from our Japanese partners tomorrow and the meetings surrounding it and other business opportunities. Things are looking good though, we’re securing more business and the value of the company has a nice potential forcast. We’ll see. It’s been a long road to even this point… six years almost. I can’t believe I’ve lived here almost six years now. Eleven more days and another record broken.
I look back on the last six years and it seems like a flash. I can’t believe everything that has gone on and where I’m at right now. I don’t even remember getting here. Arwen reminded me this morning that she is growing faster than I can keep up with. It’s disconcerting how helpless I feel in all of this. It seems the older I get and the more things I have going on in my life, the less control I have and the less I seem to have an impact on the people around me. heh. I guess that’s life. I just hope I don’t ever become one of those people that fades away, unremembered. A comment made to me last night ‘ would you care if you didn’t know me? ‘ It made me think. I do care, it’s my nature and just who I am. If I didn’t know someone, I couldn’t care explicitly about what was going on with them, but in general there are plenty of issues that I tend to care about. A lot of things most people wouldn’t even give a second thought about. But the question is, would other people care or put forth effort to pull me out if I were the one fading away into the shadows. Interesting to say the least. I can count on my fingers the number of people who might actually care… I guess that’s enough.รย Even just one is enough. Don’t go reading into this too much folks, it’s just thought – perhaps something for you to think about. A reminder that everyone needs to know that they are thought about and treasured in someone’s life, that their existence matters. Sometimes we don’t say those things enough, sometimes we say them too much. Either way. It’s something we all need to hear from time to time. Guess I should make some phone calls, huh?
Wow, how did I end up going there from that first sentence? heh… what can I say? My mind is in an interesting place right now. Maybe it’s just boredom between the goings on of a day or some other trigger. Maybe I’m just babbling on for no apparent reason. Whatever the case… at least I’m trying to get into the habit of doing this thing more often.
upgraded…

Well hopefully all is well here with this thing. I just had to upgrade the blog software due to some security crap, but all seems well on the admin side… Send me a message if something doesn’t view correctly. Hopefully I don’t have any issues with this. I also need to get off my butt and upload pictures from 2007 to the system. Hey, at least I moved 2006 to the archive album. ๐
So how was your weekend? Mine? meh… it was okay. highlight… shopping for some new clothes. Scary I just said that huh? lol
Friday actually wasn’t too bad. I went to Sharon’s for Rodney’s (her brother) birthday and we played poker for a good chunk of the night. I lost $10 to her dad. hehe. *shrug* I don’t care, it was fun none the less and I got to spend some time hangin with Sharon as well so all in all it was a good night.
Saturday… ugh… well it started out as a disaster but didn’t end too badly. Mike and I were supposed to go snowboarding and we were good to go and almost there when Mike realized he forgot his pass. For the record Mike, you’re still laid off – but you could be rehired soon, lol. By the time we made it back to town it was pretty much a waste of time to drive back up just to turn around within an hour in order to beat traffic down. *shrug* oh well. we’ll have to make another stab at it soon. I was a bit bummed as I needed to get up and clear my head so it set me off balance for pretty much most of the weekend. (feeling guilty yet bro? hehe) Anyway… since there wasn’t any point in going back up, I went back to Sharon’s to pick her and Arwen up. Somehow, we ended up going shopping for some clothes… good sale going on. Sharon seemed to have a blast and I got some new stuff to wear, so it was good. I had a good time and Arwen loved the shopping experience… I’m terrified to think of turning those two lose with my credit card on the next round… *shiver* hehe We ran a few more errands after that and I dropped off Sharon so she could work. After I got home, I had a chance to actually get a little time to log into FFXI and get some things setup so I can start playing again. Andy was ecstatic when I logged in, lol. I also got some time to ponder on the things I didn’t get to do earlier in the day and somewhat cleared my head. I just wish I had the benefit of having beat the crap out of myself on the mountain to thoroughly rid myself of physical frustrations that go along with mental ones. Oh well, I’ll have to try again for that. At least I was so wiped at the end of the night after all was said and done that I passed out… on the phone no less… haha. (at least we were both guilty of that, hehe)
Yesterday wasn’t too bad either, but it ended kinda crappy. These headaches are killing me. ๐ I did get a bunch of stuff done yesterday. Oil change, laundry, little cleaning, etc… We also went to the Merc last night too. There was a poet there who was awesome. I can’t recall her name, but I’m sure Sharon or Ryan remembers. I just wish I didn’t develop another headache and actually get sick from this one despite the fact the pain level was about a 5-6 out of 10… It sort of curb-checked the night. After I got home, I just crashed out, I couldn’t hack it anymore. Somewhere in the middle of the night though, Arwen came in and setup shop in my room, lol. I woke up this morning and she was passed out beside me all huddled up next to me, she was so cute. She evidently missed me last night… My head still hurt a little this morning, but at least it wasn’t nearly as bad as last night was.
Monday has been pretty normal. A light workload today has made things a little more pleasant. I was able to get some smaller things cleared up and even a couple of errands run. Yay for progress. Hopefully the rest of the day will go smoothly. Hmm… 24 is on tonight. ๐ Anyway yeah… enough typing.

Ok, so I had some time this morning before I headed down to Denver.
The last couple of days have been interesting…Let’s just say things are better. Yesterday was a bit stressful but all in all it ended well, so I can’t complain too much. It actually ended a lot better than I had hoped, so I’m actually feeling a lot better.รย In addition to other things in life calming down, last night was the first time in a while we’ve gotten everyone out on a humpday. It was really good to hang out with Ryan, Andy and Mike all at the same time. For the occasion we all slipped up to Applebees to give Teri a hard time. We even called my dad and harassed him for not being out with us, hehe. Maybe one of these days my parents will make it out and we can drag him out to hang with us again. I think he misses the group more than the boarding, lol. It was really good to have everyone together again. It’s been what feels like months since we’ve been able to pull that off andรย I hope we get back on track with that. I’ve missed my buds but we’ve all been so busy it’s been incredibly hard to get us all together. At least summer isn’t far off and we can do some more things during the week on odd days. However, summer coming up means the end of boarding so I’m not going to go there quite yet. ๐
Anyway, time for me to head down to Denver. Going to meet up with Sharon for lunch before getting into the nightmare workload I feel is being prepared for me down there, lol.
