DRIVE ME INSANE.

For the love, GIVE IT UP!  YOU LOOK RIDICULOUS!

Now, first and foremost. I applaud skiers for pioneering the sport of downhill mayhem in the first place. Without the concept of skiing, the thought of snowboarding may never have come to light. But snowboarders took it to a whole other level by evolving the downhill sport to an unparalleled  mixture of speed, tricks and rebellion that the slopes had never seen before. For the normal skier, this is *NOT* for you. This is for those “wannabes”.

So what started this is that I’m sitting flipping channels and I come by the Winter X Games and I couldn’t even believe what I was seeing. Not only are these brain dead monkeys wearing wild snowboarding outfits but they are also trying to ski a half-pipe? *rolls eyes* You look ridiculous, just… just… STOP!!!!

A little lesson here folks.

When snowboarding first started out, it was the next step in the evolution of skateboarding and surfing… doing it down the snow. It was something against the grain, opposite of the “normal”, a rebellion of sorts and a carrying on of the traditions found in the hearts of surfers and skate boarders alike. Snowboarders were HATED by skiers with a passion and despite their uphill (no pun intended) battle, they eventually proved that snowboarding was here to stay and resorts began to finally welcome them. Over the years expression of the snowboarder has evolved through their music, clothing and the addition of other things like half-pipes and terrain parks to the resorts we all know and love.

Watching skiers attempt to emulate this lifestyle by going through a half-pipe and most hideous of all, wearing the snowboarder born clothing styles is appalling to say the least. It’s like watching suburban kids dress like thugs and acting like they are all “hard” and were brought up living the “gangsta life”. You could never grasp the concept in a million years what that clothing you’re wearing expresses and what it means. You could never in a million years use a half-pipe properly. Pathetic spins and twirls pale in comparison to an ollie, a fakie, a wheelie,  a misty,  a rodeo, slob air, a lemon grab, an indy, a lien air, a method, a mindy, a roast beef, a tailfish or a crippler… to name a few. 

Now to be fair. There are some things you can do on skis you can’t do on a board so hats off and much respect to you guys. Going uphill, much harder on a board. “Safely” navigating trees, probably a little easier on skis. Cross country skiing, You WIN. That whole Nordic thing is just not necessary on a board nor is it truly practical. To those who attempt “cross-country snowboarding”…  It’s AN ABOMINATION. (*you guys are on the same list as skiers who use half-pipes, sorry*)

For a bunch of folks who hated snowboarders for so long, you sure go out of your way to imitate them… it’s sad.
